Plastoken incentivizes recycling and regenerative economies by partnering with companies that use plastics such as plastic bottles to give reward to plastic collectors. In partnership with Coca Cola and rowing Business Foundation plastoken has already collected over 616 million bottles, earned the community millions of dollars, recycled over 15 million kgs of plastic, and onboarded 2,420 women. Plastoken incorporates an already widespread informal sector into the formal economy by recognizing the value added by trash collectors giving these individuals access to financial tools and investments that can spur new economies. Incentives to do this kind of work are boosted by health insurance schemes, skill training, and foodbank programs that are coded as rewards into the plastoken smart contract.
